The Verdelho grape has traditionally been one of the most popular white wine grapes planted on the small island of Madeira since vines were first planted there in the 15th century.

Verdelho is one of Australia''s niche white wine varieties. The grape has been successful in the vineyards of Australia. Australian versions of Verdelho are noted for their intense tropical flavors with hints of lime and honeysuckle and the oily texture that the wines can get after some aging.

Verdelho is often served with seafood and light meats such as chicken, pork and veal. The spicy styles go well with pesto and roasted vegetables whereas the sweeter styles work well with Asian influenced dishes.
